The Washington Restaurant Association Education Foundation strives to “train tomorrow’s workforce today.” The foundation’s mission is to provide education, training and mentoring through active outreach programs. In keeping with its mission, the Education Foundation provides scholarships for extraordinary culinary students and endowments to culinary educational programs.

Scholarships

ProStart® Student of the Year Scholarship

Provided by Farrelli's Woodfire Pizza
This annual scholarship offers $1,000 to one ProStart student to be used for his/her education in the hospitality industry.

To be eligible, the student must be nominated and a packet must be filled out by the deadline. Once received, the nominations are reviewed by a group of industry and education professionals. The award is presented at the Washington State ProStart Invitational each year in March.


ProStart® Teacher of the Year Scholarship

Provided by Palm Bay International & The Odom Corporation
This annual scholarship offers $1,000 to a ProStart teacher to be used to continue their education in the hospitality field.

To be eligible, the teacher must be nominated and a packet must be filled out by the deadline. The nominations are reviewed by a group of industry and education professionals. The award is presented at the Washington State ProStart Invitational each year in March.

ProStart® Management and Culinary Teams Scholarships

Washington Restaurant Association Education Foundation
Two scholarships are awarded to the first place management and culinary teams at the annual Washington State ProStart Competition. Each $1,500 scholarship is to be used for the teams to travel to the National ProStart Competition.

Other Scholarships

At the annual Washington State ProStart Competition, many post-secondary schools partner with the WRA Education Foundation in providing scholarship opportunities. More than $450,000 worth of scholarships will be offered at the 2010 Boyd Coffee ProStart Competition. Scholarships are being provided by: 

  • Culinary Institute of America
  • International Culinary Schools at The Art Institutes
  • Johnson & Wales University
  • New England Culinary Institute
  • Oregon Culinary Institute
  • Washington State University

Endowments

The Gene Vosberg Endowment Fund

The WRA Education Foundation is proud to announce the Gene Vosberg Endowment Fund, created to celebrate the accomplishments of the Washington Restaurant Association’s President Emeritus, Gene Vosberg.

Help us honor Gene’s fifty years of hard work and achievements in the hospitality industry by making a contribution to the fund. The endowment will go to the culinary program at South Puget Sound Community College in Gene’s name. To contribute, click here.
